Turning 25 Bucket List

Sometimes turning 25 freaks me out. Other times I'm all, "I'm going to own this twenty-five ish..." and then I wonder how one owns being twenty-five. I decided to make a list of 25 things to do the year I am twenty-five.

  1. Raise some chicks. Like, chickens.

  2. Finish an interior decorating course.

  3. Learn how to use a nail gun without being afraid.

  4. Learn to change the oil in my jeep.

  5. Use a chainsaw.

  6. Wake up baby and with Honeypie and take him to look at stars.

  7. Build somethin' cool.

  8. Plant a food garden.

  9. Plant a flower garden.

  10. Go camping.

  11. Dye my hair. Maybe :)

  12. Write a new song.

  13. Go to the zoo. In Nebraska!

  14. Be a "Women Build" or "One-day Build" volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

  15. Get my CCW before I can't anymore. Oh ps Missouri friends; I have a class scheduled for January 12, 2013 at nine. If you want in, let me know. Guns and ammo provided!

  16. Understand politics. As of now, my 13 and 12 year old sisters know more about politics than I do. WuuT?

  17. Build a snowman. If it snows this year. The first year I moved to Missouri I'm pretty sure there were at least three blizzards and countless "snow advisory" warnings. There was so.much.snow. Last year? I swear it only snowed once and it was only half an inch. I was totally okay with that because I didn't want to run around being pregnant/with a newborn in the snow. Also, the last time I think I built a snowman was in high school at my high school, during lunch. I told my friends not to kick it down like they wanted to...but they did. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!

  18. Make money for a mini moo! if you don't know what those are you should. LOOK!

    [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="360"] This Jersey cow is grown![/caption]

  19. Be able to do 40 "man" push ups. I used to be able to do that. It WILL happen again.

  20. Get a new puppy and make sure it never gets run over by a truck. *@#%&#!

  21. Fill the frames on our wall with pictures.

  22. Paint our stairs.

    [caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="450"] lyrical stairs. i love them.[/caption]

  23. Paint the outside of our house. I'm thinking along the lines of gray. White attracts too many bugs, and I can't have a pink house.

  24. Learn alternative/natural/home medicine

  25. Get our food storage done. You know, for the zombie apocalypse.

My Dresser Got The Blues

Blue, blue, blue, blue! My go-to color. Also the main color in our room. Since we are keeping this dresser, it became blue to match the bed in our room.

We got this dresser from a neighbor who was moving out of state. It was missing one of the plastic deco things, so we just got rid of all of them and put on some wood trim.

I primed the dresser with Zinsser's oil-based paint because it's all the rage with DIY furniture makeovers, so I thought I would give it a try. In all honesty, I don't see what the hype was all about. Zinsser's water-based primer is just as good, and I don't have to use mineral spirit to clean my brush/self up, or throw the brush away. and omgosh, oil-based primer smells SO BAD. So bad. The oil-based primer also takes about 1,490,099 years to dry.

While I was waiting for the primer to dry I spray painted the hardware gold with Rust-Oleum Metallic spray paint.

We have been working on our house for over a year. It’s a work in progress. We officially moved into our house in April earlier this year, and have slowly been furnishing it. So excited to have this baby in there!

I'm Keeping This

Old Timey

We didn't get much decorating done this weekend. We had more important things to do; like pulling down trees, chainsaw-massacre-ing the logs, splitting and stacking them. Since our wood-stove is the only source of heat we have for our house, we figured it might be a good idea to get a supply of wood before it snows. Just maybe. My family was a huge help. My little sister helped me carry some wood into the house and said, "I feel all old time-y..." because our house is only heated with a wood-stove...not that fact that it was built in the 1890s. Whatev!

We don't need trucks! I love how my dad wears his beanie

Chainsaw massacre

working so hard :)

Despite the lack of decorating, I did finish our dresser and it is officially moved into our room. Check it out!

We (My Honeypie) also put a door on our room this weekend! Yay!

AND he finished the shower so we can actually shower in it! But I don't have pics of that today.

Also, I know Winter hasn't even happened yet, but I'm already totally ready for Spring. Because guess what? One way or another I'm getting chickens. Whoever lived here before us had chickens too! Look!

Except I feel like I'm going to get murdered every time I walk in there. So we will have to fix it up cute. We did more stuff this weekend, but it will have to wait for another post.

Guys.

Guys, I changed my button! I miss the Beatnik Barn Unicorn already, but since I made this image, I can use it freely. If the time ever comes where I can either choose to be myself or a unicorn, I will still choose the unicorn. Even if I cheated on the unicorns with my new button.

Check it out:
Ignore my amateur design skills, and just be happy with me about this. You can only do so much with zero design knowledge and Google draw. If you want a piece of me (aka Beatnik Barn), grab the button text in the sidebar or the text in the box below. It would make me feel awesome....kind of like a unicorn.

Enjoy!

DIY Upholstery: Cinderella Chairs

I don't know why I call them "Cinderella Chairs". Maybe because I worked on them all night. And they are super girly.

Here is what they looked like before:

Just ignore the horrifying mess in my kitchen. It's still under construction

First, disassemble, sand, and prime.

While your primer is drying, start working on your cushions!

Give your chairs some love, and paint the crap out of them. I painted three coats on my chairs. Sand between coats if you like.

Enjoy!

Antique Stores Are My Fave

Look what I got for our bedroom! Hopefully this weekend we will actually get to decorate our room. Yay! And you will get to see the dresser that I'm still in the process of finishing. Be so excited.

Thrift stores/Antique stores are the best. I love them. Here is a breakdown of some of the stuff we got, because guess what, you CAN decorate your house for cheaps.

I've been searching everywhere for a Moroccan lantern and finally found one for five bucks! Then I just adored that pink kerosene lamp and had to have it, even though it's missing the hurricane glass. It was only a dollar. and I'll find a glass for it eventually. Then the jewel box (for my jewels) was also a dolla. The vase was broken and glued back together and I guess that would be considered trash, BUT I couldn't let it go with all of it's color. Could. Not. Could not beat three dollars either. The most we spent was eight dollars on that painting. Which I loooove. My Honeypie picked it out! High five!

Seriously. So excited.

Some Stuffs

I finished a table this week, but I can't post pics until the couple sees it first!

This week I'm going to paint this baby for our bedroom.

It seriously took me ten minutes to get the drawers figured out. Don't judge.

So I Said

{phlogging}

I promised more pics at the beginning of the week, but I wasn't as awesome as I thought I was going to be and didn't finish what I intended to.

Anyway, while I was out playing at a campfire with a bunch of teenage girls (who I love), My Honeypie was being awesome and painted our floor white.

We did this once already with a latex floor paint and it stayed clean for the first day. This time he found an oil based paint with polyurethane mixed into it and it turned out so fab! I love it.

Then we got this pretty sweet bed for free when a neighbor moved and I painted it blue. And I made some gray curtains out of some cheap five dolla flat sheets. I feel like I'm in the sound of music or something...except she makes dresses out of curtains. Right?

Maybe there is a way to insert pics within the text while blogging from my phone, but I haven't figured it out yet. So here is a photo dump:
