Real Life Clients

Thanks to the Fall Festival I got a couple of real-life clients! One of them is a super sweet couple, Lora and Charles, and I get to refinish their dining room table.

Lora really liked the look of this table I finished that ended up in a local quilt shop:

She requested something similar, but with a turquoise base *squeal*

Here are the before pics (it’s not set up, sorry about that-I didn’t think ahead-but you get the idea).

Thanks for the opportunity guys! I can’t wait to see how it turns out!

Festivities!

The Fall Festival this past weekend was a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who stopped by!

We even sold a few pieces; the pink and white chevron dresser, blue end table, bench, and a yellow mirror I painted at the last minute.

At the last minute I also finished these end tables. I super love them! You can see them in the pictures from the festival.

I wasn’t able to get a “cute” picture of them before the festival, but you get the idea.
I planned to sand and re-stain the top. I used Mini-Wax dark walnut stain and just followed the directions on the can.

Unfortunately, I didn’t wear gloves because I’m too lazy to buy some/I forget, and my hands looked habitually dirty for the next two or three days.

Back to the end tables: I wasn’t sure about what color I should paint them, so I asked family and friends for color suggestions. The majority vote was white, and white they became!

Thanks for reading!

Inspire: Pink

I'm Not a Real Artist

I’m not a real artist, but I like painted pictures. The only thing is, my pictures look like they were drawn by a five year old. I’m okay with it.

Whenever we have leftover whatever, I’m always like, “Keep that, I might want it later.” I feel like a hoarder. But really, I might use it later. DON’T THROW IT AWAY! My Honeypie has learned to keep just about everything. Yay!

We had some leftover scrap wood, I had some spare time on my hands (wut?), and I thought to myself, “Self, let’s paint a picture.”

I didn't like the way they lines ended up, so I added a small one. If I had been thinking ahead, I would have done three even lines in the first place. It is what it is.

Super simple!

I liked this one a lot, so I made another one the next day, but less involved. Kind of.

This time I painted the whole board white.

I made a “stencil” out of a file folder, taped it on the wood, sprayed it with Krylon metallic spray paint and bam. Instant cloud. Then I hand painted some pretty, kindergarten-esque raindrops.

They are going to live in our room...which is currently undergoing some furniture awesomeness. Stay tuned!

Winner Winner of the Re-draw!

Those of you who are following along know that the original winner never claimed her prize and that we held a re-draw for the yellow nightstand this morning.

Without anymore nonsense, the winner this go round is.....

TEAM LAWTER aka my friend, Whitney!

Again, thank you, thank you! to everyone who participated. There will be another drawing mid-November. Stay tuned!

To you local folks, just a reminder that tomorrow is the Fall Festival in Cameron. Hope to see you there!

Guess What...

It has been three weeks since our drawing for the yellow nightstand giveaway. Thank you all for participating! Unfortunately, the winner never got back to me and I have no way to get in touch with her {sad face}

For this drawing I entered in everyone that commented, even if they didn't follow the blog. I think there were about 40 entries, but only a few who completed step two to be entered into the drawing. So I just decided I would let rule two slide this time around...

BUT if you didn't follow the blog, I have no way to get in touch with you!!! Meaning, if you won and didn't check back, you wouldn't know that you won! In light of this situation I have learned two things: rules are rules...and I can't remember the second.

To those of you who did follow the blog (all 13 of you--thank you!!) I am doing a re-draw this Friday with only the names who followed the blog. If any of you did not follow the blog now is your chance!! You must respond within 48 hours or another winner will be chosen.

I hope this doesn't make anyone angry or upset or super-J (jealous). That way, I can get rid of this cute nightstand that is taking up space in my bedroom. It wants a real home!

Also, stay tuned for a NOVEMBER GIVEAWAY! I don't know what it will be yet, but it will be small enough that I can mail it without an outrageous shipping fee. Which means my out of state friends will be able to enter too! Holla!

Simple and Simply Blue

I love colored dressers and the color blue. If a piece doesn't "speak to me" like the pink and white chevron dresser, I usually opt to paint the silent piece blue. It's my fave; soothing, sincere, comfortable, constant, playful, and fresh. Fresh like water, not fresh like, "are you getting fresh with me?"

The only thing I would do differently is maybe stencil a design on the drawers to give it more character and texture.

This is what the dresser looked like before (thanks, Rebecca!):

First, I primed it with Zinnser water-based primer which is a huge step up from the leftover drywall primer I have been using. (Zinnser primer has an oil based primer too, but I wanted water based...I'll get adventurous and try oil-based one of these days. I heard it's great!)

Second, I painted 3-4 coats of Color Place (the Wal-Mart brand) Timeout Turquoise in semi-gloss using a mini foam roller brush (also from Wal-Mart) and that was it! No sanding or anything.

One last look:

This baby will be at the Fall Festival in Cameron, Missouri on Saturday (October 20th, 2012). I'm so totally excited for it!

Thanks for looking!

A Blue Side Table

Turns out, I'm not very good at "creative" titles for my blog posts. I'm okay with it. Lately, people have been giving me their reject furniture out of the goodness of their hearts. That's how I got this little side table:

It was in great shape except for the bottom piece. It was breaking and falling off, so My Honeypie just removed it. I used some of my left over paints and mixed them together to get the color and do-do-doo-blue!

I plan on taking her to the Cameron Fall Festival. One last quick look:

Thanks for looking!
