DIY Handpainted Floor: Bring Your Love

It's getting close to Valentine's Day; one of my most favorite holidays ever! I just love love. You know?

I started painting some sappy love quote I came up with on our entry way floor, then never finished.I figured, Valentine's Day is coming up, so why not finish the freaking floor? And I did.

First, I drew out letters onto the floor with a marker. I originally used latex paint and painted out the letters. I washed the floor once and some of the paint peeled up.

This time I used oil-based porch and floor paint (which I used on our dining room table and our kitchen and dining room floors). I outlined the letters with frog tape to help with the edges and to help speed up the process.

This is not a project for the faint-hearted. I think it took me two hours to tape the letters off, and even with frog tape there was some leakage. That may have to do with the fact that our floor isn't completely level. Whatev. I'm okay with imperfection, so I left it. It's going to get all walked on anyway!

Some House Happenings

I haven't mentioned our house lately. Nathanael just finished putting a door in the doorway between the mudroom and the kitchen. Remember this door from waaaay back that I just had to have? It was a a local scrap yard.

Well, here it is! In our house. Sorry for all the super low quality pictures.

I plan on putting either a chalkboard or a decorative piece of metal grate on top of some wood. It won't happen today, but it WILL happen. I also plan to clean it. :)

We also switched stoves with Nathanael's sister, Ruth. HUGE blessing and thanks! That tiny wood stove wasn't cutting it, but now we stay super warm. Nathanael discovered that it is really a coal burning stove, so we want to buy some coal just to test it out.

I started painting our dining room table (finally) and it will hopefully be finished on Saturday. Be on the look out!

Oh, and have a happy, safe, responsible New Year's Eve! ;)

To the Window!

Dear Dad,

If you want to help with the windows, then you'd better get home fast! Apparently they are really easy to do. Actually, either way I think the big windows will still be around :)

Love,
Alisha

After My Honeypie finished the drainage last night, he installed our first new window! Actually, our first three new windows!

We so need to paint.

I didn't get a picture of the third window. Twas too dark! but we replaced the window to the right of the door.

I wasn't around for the demo when Window World came, so I asked My Honeypie to show me all the cool ish our window does:

After the demonstration My Honeypie went to install a couple more.

No, he did not pee on himself. He just got water all over himself from the spout outside.

That's pretty much it, but I am so in love with them!

Yay for Window World! and my hardcore Honeypie.
