Proof that I Work

We finally have some proof that I actually work on the house sometimes. See my foot?

Just kidding. There is a real picture, but I look really scary. I am not ashamed, kind of, so I will share.

Using vegetable oil and vinegar to bring the floor back to life again.

Ta-da! We had just gotten back from swimming at my parent's house. Holla!

Anyway, last night My Honeypie did a coat of poly on the floor. Check it out:

I Got an Old Chair: Makeover!

Yesterday, My Honeypie came home and handed me some dollars and I was like, "what's this for?" and he told me, "[insert inappropriate joke]."

Joke!

He just told me it was for me. Awwww. Spoiled!

You want to know what I did with that money? I went to the antique store in Hamilton, duh.

Oh, yes I did. and I bought a wooden chair for ten bucks. It looked like this:

Now it looks like this!

OMGOSH!! Is it wrong to totally love what you, yourself, just accomplished? Cuz I totally do. I looove it!

I love it so much that I risked getting ticks to give my chair a photo opportunity:

I decided this is for my craft room. Until then it shall remain...everywhere.

A Little More Color

One more painted ceiling down!

This color is by far my favorite. Check it:

Before:

After:

Woop!

"True Turquoise."

I am so loving it.

At the suggestions of my little sister and sister-in-law, I am going to paint all of the ceilings in a color of the rainbow. Don't worry, some will still be white.

I decided to paint the entry way ceiling a green, and the craft room ceiling a light lavender.  Then our house will be a rainbow for real!

Also, my awesome brother-in-law came and helped My Honeypie do this:

OMGOSH!

We have kitchen cabinets!

I know this isn't typically how a piece like this is used...I'm pretty sure they are used on top of another set of cabinets, but it works this way for us. Plus, our kitchen is going to kind of be a mess of different cabinets as we piece the kitchen together. No matter! I'm painting them all anyway. Of course.

Paint all the things!!!

I Love Rainbows.

It is one of the things I have in common with my eleven (almost 12!) year old sister. I don't know what that says about me. Whatever.

I also love everything shabby chic.

Rainbow love+shabby chic love=contradiction.

The one thing I know about shabby chic-ness, is that it mostly involves ruffles, lace, grouping stuffs, and WHITE. Lots and lots of whites.

But I love rainbows.

So trying to figure out how to decorate my house has been a little bit of a problem.

I want shabby chic,
but I also want colors.

I LOVE THE RAINBOW!

Its like this battle going on constantly in my head.

Our room is pretty much all white and I love it, but I wanted something more...

To satisfy my dueling personalities, I decided on white walls downstairs and...

colored ceilings!

It's like a rainbow in our house!

Yes, it is orange. "Ripe Tangerine" to be exact.

[caption id="attachment_1030" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Dining room...please excuse the blue tape.[/caption]

[caption id="attachment_1032" align="aligncenter" width="300"] from the kitchen looking into the dining room.[/caption]

We painted the ceiling "Bright Sunshine".

I've got sunshiii-eee-ine!

[caption id="attachment_1029" align="aligncenter" width="614"] Also, some proof that I DO work and not just take pictures[/caption]

That isn't all we've been doing...we also finished the floor in the second living room. Which means we can move everything out of living room number one (you will see pictures soooon!) so I can paint that ceiling and finish the floors. Stay tuned for an update on that in the next couple of days.

I'm Awesome.

Anyway.

Contrary to what it may seem, I don't spend all my time on Facebook. I also spend all of my time on Pinterest.

Just kidding.

I don't do that either. I do this thing called "motherhood", and I also make my husband awesome.

Just kidding.

He's already awesome. I spend most of my day trying to be a little more awesome than usual.

Today my awesome-ness consisted of this:

in process

I used a tip I found on Pinterest (yeah) and used vegetable oil and vinegar to bring our dying floor back to life!

See:

you can see where I haven't done yet under the white thingy

baby!
Yay! I can actually walk on the floor barefoot without getting nasty dust on my feet!

Holla!

We got to sleep in our bedroom last night!! Yay! If you don't remember what it looked like before:

Before:

Now

We also added a small bathroom. It's not finished, but here is a preview:

(that is still sitting out in the yard waiting to be painted...oops)

So excited! Moving on...

So happy! Not completely finished, but hey. It's closer every day! Woop!

I know right?

The other day My Honeypie and I had a conversation that went something like this:

[In the kitchen]

Honeypie: You know, I guess you will have a lot of counter space.

Me: I know.

Honeypie: You could actually probably fit an island here too, if you wanted.

Me: I know.

Honeypie: But I already told you when you asked before that you didn't have room...

Me: I know...but I knew you were wrong so I was planning on having one anyway.

:)

My goal this summer is to find something with which I can make an awesome island. There are two great things I have discovered about Missouri:

1. The-Day-Before-Trash-Pick-Up-Day

Why? People get rid of the most awesome junk!

2. Garage Sales.

Why? People get rid of the most awesome junk for cheap!

and then you're like, "all that really needs is some paint..." and BOOM. Beautiful

So all I need to do this summer is find something like this:

or this

or this:

and make it awesome!

With a Blue Little Window

and a blue corvette... I think my favorite color is blue, but this is only a recent discovery. I think. I'm not really sure. For the past couple of years when people are all like, "What's your favorite color?" I say, "blue...and yellow...and some greens...and Pink! and..." basically, I love a rainbow.

But I also love white. I actually knew a guy whose favorite color really was (Is?) white. huh.

Anyway. You already know I'm a paint snob, so we got some white that I like for our room.

We broke the Sabbath and painted it yesterday:

and today I painted the bathrooms:

upstairs

downstairs

Just so you know, I didn't forget to paint half the bathroom--we will be putting up bead board! and let me explain our sink situation: We got two pedestal sinks for free, but neither of them had the pedestals. We wanted storage, but pedestals don't allow for storage, so we improvised and bought this vanity for five bucks, and stuck the sink on top of it. Yes! Personally, I love it--I'm going to paint the vanity tomorrow. BLUE!

Fetch Yes.

OhmigoshohmigoshohmigoshOHMIGOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS WEEKEND!

YES!

We will be moving into our house!

*Jump in my hoopty hoopty hoop* <--celebratory dance.

I’ve been working the [paint] pole for the past week or so (along with my sister-in-law, Ruth). I am happy to announce that two rooms upstairs are fully painted! Don’t get too excited, they are just “antique white” for now.

I will admit that I am a super huge paint snob and *hated* the paint when I put it on the wall cuz it looked yellow.  I mostly got over it cuz My Honeypie told me that I didn’t have to paint our room that color, and it looks fine in the pictures, so whatever.

Photo Dump!

Baby's room

A plan is formulating in my head for his room--I'm thinking blue/orange stripes and cute little jungle animals to match the quilt I made him.

Next:

Third room

Also, if you didn’t know already, my little sister Cassie found this supa huge snake upstairs in our ‘master bedroom’. She came running out of the room into the teeny hallway and said, “ALISHA! There’s a snake in your room!”

I thought she just saw the end of a mouse’s tail or something, because we’ve seen them running around and they leave their little paw prints in the sheetrock dust. (If you’re gonna be up in someone’s house like that, you need to erase the evidence. Stupid rodents.)

Anyway, so I walk in there and BOOM! Four foot long black snake. WtHEck? I used to pick up snakes all the time in Utah because I knew which ones were okay…except for that one time I accidently picked up a baby rattlesnake. Whatevs. I don’t pick snakes up here. Until I learn them! Turns out black snakes aren’t poisonous, but they are fetching huge. And they like mice which we guess that’s why it was in the house.

He was so not happy to be picking that up

Seriously though? Ticks freak me out way worse than snakes. WAY. I have to wear rubber gloves and hold my breath when I try and get them off our dog. They are disgusting, parasitic, greedy, little arachnids and I feel like they’re crawling all over me whenever I talk about them. So I’m done. Bleh.
